Internship Program (5)

Redding Radio has an active internship program that involves students at Shasta College, Enterprise High School, and Foothill High School. Interns involved in this program work closely with station personnel and gain valuable hands-on experience in broadcasting.

Participation in events/programs sponsored by educational institutions (10)

Redding Radio hosted several Career Day fairs at local schools to increase awareness of our company and the radio industry in general. Classroom sessions were scheduled to share the daily duties of radio hosts and management positions, followed by question and answer times for students to ask questions.

  1. 3/2/07- “Live with Don & Linda” from KSHA mornings on location from Buckeye Elementary School to celebrate Dr. Seuss Day. Our morning hosts read stories to students and spoke about the importance of expressive reading in the radio business.
  1. 3/22/07- Don Burton, Senior Program Director of KSHA-FM participated with other business leaders by being “Principal for a Day” at Central Valley High School. Don took the place of Principal Emmit Koerperich and spoke with students about the differences and similarities of the radio business and school administrators.
  1. 4/27/07- “Live with Don & Linda” from KSHA-FM mornings on location from Boulder Creek Elementary. A radio broadcast demonstration in conjunction with a school fundraiser to display the power of public speaking in fundraising campaigns.
  1. 5/11/07- Don Burton, Senior Program Director of KSHA-FM hosted the Boulder Creek Elementary Career Day. 2 classroom sessions to share the daily duties of radio host and radio management positions.
  1. 7/20/07- Don Burton and Heather Gibson of KQMS-AM hosted a career day at Montessori School. 25 children learned about music and news-talk radio and the importance of education as related to the broadcast industry.
  1. Business Manager, Kara Chilson participated in a mock interview event at the local University, Shasta College on DATE to help prepare Communication majors for possible future careers in the broadcasting industry. This equipped the students with interviewing skills while also exposing them to the career possibilities within the broadcasting industry.

Training for Employees (8)

Redding Radio has an ongoing training for all personnel to allow then to grow within their positions and enable them to qualify for higher level positions.

The sales staff are put through a program called Co-Learn. In addition, they receive ongoing training in sales techniques and methods. This includes weekly, monthly and quarterly “in-house” training events, as well as twice-yearly offsite events. This training enables sales staff to gain the skills necessary to advance through the Redding Radio organization, and also allows them to gain the skills to move up to larger markets and positions them for management opportunities.

All departments are focused on cross training in order to prepare them for future opportunities. Redding Radio also supplies employees with specific scheduled trainings with Arbiton and RAB as well as outside training classes.

In addition, all Managers and Sales reps participated in an interactive Harassment training seminar on May 30, 2007. The credited training included how to create a harassment-free workplace and how to deal with situations should they arrive.

Sponsorship of events in the community (11)

Redding Radio co-sponsored the annual Chamber of Commerce Business Expo at the Redding Convention Center on September 21, 2006 from 8am – 6pm. The event exposed hundreds of businesses and individuals to our company and the opportunities available at Redding Radio.

Co-Sponsoring of Job Fairs (3)

Redding Radio co-sponsored the annual Job Expo 2007 held at Shasta College on April 11, 2007 from 9am-3pm. Approximately 60 businesses participated with several hundred job seekers.

Participation in community events (4)

  1. Redding Radio's KQMS talk show host, Ken Murray was a presentation speaker for the State of City luncheon held on January 20, 2007. Mr. Murray addressed the community and the youth council on employment and internship opportunities in the radio sector.
  2. Don Burton participates in the Shasta Counties Plus One Mentors program each year. The program is ongoing and Don represents the Media and educates the youth of the various career opportunities.
  3. On May 8, 2007 Don Burton participated in a career workshop with the Anderson Exchange Club.
